Barring a shift in the way things are, he won’t get it. The 28-year-old Española Valley graduate is shredding opposing pitching three weeks into the season, ranking first in home runs (15), second in batting (.493) and fourth in runs batted in (39).

Upon first glance, the view toward the right-field fence at Fort Marcy Ballpark in Wednesday’s late afternoon sun might look normal, even ominous to any pitcher toeing the rubber. But a harder look reveals what the Santa Fe Fuego hope is a solution for their pitching woes that have plagued the franchise for almost all of their 14 years: A 25-foot tall, roughly 110-foot-wide black netting that stretches atop that section of the fence.

Garden City 22, Santa Fe 9Pitching did in the Fuego again. Not even Fort Marcy Ballpark's new right-field netting that acts like a 30-foot "fence" changed that. The Wind opened the scoring with a three-run homer by Dominic Enbody in the first inning and scored in every inning except the second. Fuego pitchers not only allowed 16 hits, but they also issued 17 walks.

The local media will get its first look at the University of New Mexico’s completely rebuilt men’s basketball team this week when the Lobos open their summer workouts for a couple of hours Tuesday. Head coach Eric Olen still has a few spots left for his 14-player roster, but most of the names are already in place and on campus. Twelve players have been officially signed, as has Olen’s support staff.
