Santa Fe New Mexican

The Santa Fe New Mexican is a daily publication based in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Founded in 1849, it holds the title of the oldest daily newspaper west of the Mississippi River. However, some argue that the St. Joseph Missouri News Press Gazette, which has origins dating back to 1845, may claim that title as St. Joseph, Missouri, is located west of the Mississippi.

Nothing earth-shattering happened at Thursday’s board of directors meeting for the New Mexico Activities Association. Still, a Class 1A state cross-country meet could be on the horizon. The biggest decision the board made at its final meeting of the school year was to increase the number of weight classes in boys and girls wrestling from 12 (girls) and 13 (boys) to 14 for both.

The FlyCatchers provided it with 10 unanswered runs through 3 1/2 innings to build a 10-0 lead in a Pecos League game at Fort Marcy Ballpark. It was just enough cushion, as Santa Fe (1-5) scored three runs in the bottom of fourth and fifth.

Small schools, big problems? There is nothing quite like watching the state cross-country championships, a sea of running humanity exploding from the starting line to determine the best individuals and teams in each classification. Perhaps no race exemplifies this more than the Class 1A/2A boys and girls races, which annually have the largest fields of the four classes that run at Albuquerque Academy.
