The Peace Bridge Duty Free is in debt by more than $20 million, according to a report published by the Canadian Press (CP). A judge is ordering the duty-free shop in Fort Erie at Canada’s second-busiest border crossing into receivership as it struggles to pay off debt and overdue rent.

A flurry of vandalism and theft on the weekend in the Ridgeway-Thunder Bay area is being investigated by Niagara Regional Police (NRP). In a statement to Fort Erie Radio on Monday, NRP spokesperson Constable Phil Gavin said there are four incidents of vehicles being entered into and stolen from. Additionally, one car had its window smashed but did not appear subjected to theft, said Gavin. A car was also stolen, a black 2010 Mazda hatchback.

Fort Erie’s fire department is investigating a blaze in Crescent Park that caused more than $600,000 in damage early Friday morning. Three stations, a total of more than 30 firefighters, were called to a home at the corner of Garrison and Buffalo roads shortly after 1 a.m. to find a fully involved structure fire. One male was inside at the home but was able to escape safely after smoke alarms did their job and alerted him.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) are asking the public to notify authorities if they see two people, a man and a woman, last seen in Fort Erie. On Thursday afternoon, Niagara Regional Police (NRP) said on social media that RCMP Ontario has asked them to share a warning about two illegal migrants at large. Yenny Justo, 41, and and Alexander Cardenas, 51, are considered âdangerousâ and should not be approached.

The schedule is set for the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League eastern conference finals, which will see the Fort Erie Meteors face off against the St. Catharines Falcons. The Meteors will look to win back-to-back championships in what used to be called the golden horseshoe finals but was renamed this season. Game one will be on Friday in St. Catharines and game two will be played on home ice at the Leisureplex at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
