The new partnership comes at a time when Australia's $4.2 billion cotton industry is at risk from the rising threat of diseases, with the partnership looking to help protect cotton crops and support the flourishing export market.

Queensland’s innovation and science department was not party to the state’s half billion-dollar investment in PsiQuantum that critics say lacked adequate scrutiny. Despite being the lead government body in charge of the state’s $76 million quantum strategy, which is spruiked as “making Queensland a home for quantum”, the department was largely not included in the process to select or negotiate the major deal.

On Wednesday, it was revealed the government was yet to complete a project validation report on the stadium in Brisbane’s southern suburbs, which hosted the 1982 Commonwealth Games. That brought an incredulous response from deputy Opposition leader Jarrod Bleijie, whose Liberal-National Party has vowed to review the Games’ venues if it forms government after the October state election.

Peter Dutton’s nuclear energy plan would require a plebiscite in Queensland, “substantial regulatory reform” and could risk the state’s water security, a government report has found. Analysis from Labor Premier Steven Miles’ department concluded a legislative overhaul would be needed for the Liberal-National opposition’s proposal to convert seven power plants across the country to nuclear, including Callide and Tarong in Queensland.
