However, the 2025 race features plenty of intrigue — and in large part because the city will have a new mayor elected this year. Mayor Mitch Reynolds declined to run for a second term, making the seat an open race.

What is known now is that incumbent mayor Mitch Reynolds is not planning on running again, so the city will have new leadership in 2025 and beyond. Reynolds, who narrowly won election in 2021 by 205 votes over Vicki Markussen, said he wouldn’t seek a second term. In 2021, 10 people ran for mayor in La Crosse.
