It seems you can’t spend a couple of months without tripping over a Capcom collection. Capcom has honoured its incredibly storied fighting game history with three collections – one celebrating Street Fighter, another celebrating Marvel vs. Capcom and one with everything in between. But with all those collections, the consensus on the strength of those titles was already resounding.

When credit rolled on Doom: Eternal, I was pretty content. While I acknowledge some didn’t enjoy it as much as I did, I felt like the new Doom game didn’t have many more places to go. It felt complete in many ways, both mechanically and narratively. But then, when The Dark Ages was announced, I was shocked that iD would return to Doom after wrapping everything up so neatly in Eternal. But having played The Dark Ages, it’s an entirely different beast to Eternal – that much is obvious.

I’ve spoken a lot about how Death Stranding 2 should not be compared to Metal Gear Solid in my main preview, but it’s hard to deny that the franchise that put Hideo Kojima on the map has, in some parts, influenced the way Death Stranding 2 has been designed. He compared the jump from Death Stranding 1 to Death Stranding 2 in a similar vein to the jump from the first Metal Gear Solid to it’s sequel, Sons of Liberty.

While story spoilers are not mentioned here, this article does discuss a mission objective and a weapon in Death Stranding 2. The kangaroo is out of the pouch. Death Stranding 2: On The Beach takes place on our fine continent of Australia. Anybody who has followed the twenty minutes of trailers put out so far for the game will no doubt have suspected that Sam would be delivering somewhere that wasn’t America. You might have even had some suspicions if you’ve followed all the reveals closely.

My opening moments with Death Stranding 2: On The Beach are simple but strong. A sprawling desert. A flowing river. A windy canyon. A rocky mountain. Fluttering strings. A personal but palpable sense of relief that we have another Death Stranding to play. Norman Reedus, playing Sam Porter Bridges again, comes into focus and kisses Lou on her forehead. It’s obvious they’ve bonded in the eleven months that have passed since the first Death Stranding, but the two need to get home.

Announced at #EvoJapan2025: A new Street Fighter 6 collaboration is coming to Overwatch 2. https://t.co/bGUWT9HZYU

Also, yes, it's set in Australia. And it's done in such a great way too - you can read about all the Australianisms that I've picked up in my time with the game so far here.

DELIVERED ✅ Played 4 days worth of Death Stranding 2: On The Beach and so far it's shaping up to be everything I wanted and more. It's still DS at its core, but believe me when I say that it is an incredible sequel that improves on the original in practically every way.
