Last week’s bombshell decision by Lauren Smith to leave Bristol City, 12 days before the start of the Championship season, was a “shock” to everyone; staff and players, as well as fans. Smith has been influential and instrumental in rebuilding the Robins over the last three years, following the financial, structural and cultural reset that followed in 2021, the head coach leading them back into the top-flight only to experience demotion once again in 2023/24.
