A young cancer survivor from Bo’ness enjoyed a transformational sailing trip earlier this month off the coast of Largs in North Ayrhire with the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust. Olivia Thom, 25, was diagnosed with an astrocytoma – a type of brain tumour – in 2020 and was only too glad to take advantage of the wonderful opportunities the charity gave her.

A popular – some would say finger licking good – restaurant has plans to make some changes. KFC UKI lodged two applications with Falkirk Council on Wednesday, June 18, looking to make changes at its Bellvue Street, Falkirk drive through restaurant. One application was looking for permission to make “external alterations” to the premises, while another was trying to get the go ahead to display ‘illuminated and non-illuminated advertisements’.

Elected officials have have agreed to transfer ownership of two more Falkirk Council facilities as part of its Strategic Property Review. At a meeting of the council’s executive committee this week, members gave the go ahead to transfer Newlands Community Hall to Sealock Infinity SCIO (SIS) and Loch Park Pavilion to Steins Thistle Football Club (STFC). Both transfers will be completed at the nominal purchase price of £1, reflecting the community benefits these projects will bring.

Brian Leishman has reaffirmed his commitment to vote against the controversial welfare bill proposed by the UK Government. The MP for Alloa and Grangemouth said he will “absolutely” vote against welfare cuts proposed in the Universal Credit and Personal Independence Payment Bill when it comes before parliament next month. He has been highly critical of the welfare reforms, which the government hopes will save up to £5 billion by 2030, since the plans first emerged last year.
