Despite the fact that inflation is falling, prices still remain substantially higher than they were prior to the cost-of-living crisis. The National Union of Students (NUS) found that some are having to work “up to 50 hours a week” to pay household bills.

The Rosalind Franklin Laboratory, the UK’s first Covid-19 testing “mega lab”, has been put up for sale. The Leamington-based test centre opened in July 2021 and was intended to speed up Covid testing, processing 300,000 tests a day. However, plans never fully materialised, and the lab has stood empty for the past eleven months. Following suggestions that the site would create up to 1500 jobs, the lab shut in January earlier this year. 600 workers were let go as a result.

WMG at The University of Warwick helped more than 50 small and midsize enterprises (SMEs) in the West Midlands become more sustainable after the energy crisis left 60% of these critical UK manufacturers threatened with closure. Laura Downey, the technical lead of the Innovation programme at Warwick, said “The Net Zero Innovation Network has supported over 50 businesses and counting.”The Net Zero Innovation Network was designed to provide solutions for SMEs impacted by the energy crisis.
