OGDEN, Utah (KUTV) — While building North America’s railroads, the Japanese rail workers in northern Utah were also trying to build their own lives in Ogden. “Most people don’t realize Ogden was segregated up until the 60s,” said Sarah Langsden, the curator and co-head of Special Collections at Weber State University, who’s researching Ogden’s Japanese history. The Japanese in Ogden were limited to a two-mile radius.

OGDEN, Utah (KUTV) — Transportation across North America with reached a new level in 1862. It was the year when President Abraham Lincoln signed the Pacific Railroad Act into law. That law authorized the construction of the Transcontinental Railroad, which would connect the eastern United States to the pacific coast. The rail line went from Sacramento, California through Ogden, brought jobs and attracted members of the Asian community.
