    WEST HARTFORD - The town will once again honor the contributions of African Americans and celebrate their history at the fifth annual West Hartford CommUnity Juneteenth Celebration on June 14. The all-ages event, which will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. behind Town Hall, 50 South Main St., will include Juneteenth memorabilia, musical performances, arts and crafts activities, and food trucks.

    Wallingford students participate in spelling bee WALLINGFORD - The annual Town-wide Wallingford Spelling Bee, sponsored by the Wallingford Community Women's Inc., was held May 6 at Dag Hammarskjold Middle School, with fifth and sixth graders competing. The winner was Mateo Perez, a sixth grader from Moran Middle School. The runner-up was Grace Taylor, a fifth grader from Mary Fritz Elementary School. Bee Master of the event was Sally Tremaine.

    EAST HARTFORD - The "Off-Main Experience" was held Friday on Bissell Street, featuring art, music, and vendors. The event was a collaboration with the Town of East Hartford and RiseUp for Arts' East Hartford Murals group. The street, which is already home to a mural painted by RiseUp artist Haley Jones, featured local artists painting on easels. Attendees also had the opportunity to create their own works of art.

    GLASTONBURY - The owners of two local coffee shops have decided to close both locations, calling their years in the restaurant business "an extraordinary journey."In a Facebook post, owners Andréa Hawkins and Doug Barber announced Berkins on Main, which was housed in the downtown branch of the Hartford Public Library, closed Wednesday. Their second location, Berkins Blend at 1003 Hebron Ave. in Glastonbury, is slated to close June 19.
