After entering the transfer portal on April 7, sophomore defenseman Ben Robertson will transfer to the University of Michigan, announced on Tuesday afternoon. Robertson announced his transfer through an Instagram post that was collaborated with Michigan’s hockey’s official account. Robertson captioned the post with just two emojis signifying the maize ‘M’ of Michigan.

This story will be updated. Sophomore defenseman Ben Robertson entered the transfer portal on Monday morning, per Brad Elliot Schlossman and the Grand Forks Herald transfer portal tracker. Robertson will use his final two years of NCAA eligibility elsewhere. The surprising development comes as Cornell is already losing three key defenseman to graduation — seniors Tim Rego (who played on the top defensive pair with Robertson), Hank Kempf and Michael Suda.

In just one week, six departing seniors have inked professional contracts. Those signings are coupled with the loss of junior forward Dalton Bancroft, who opted to sign with the Boston Bruins instead of returning for his senior season.

On Thursday, things got a whole lot more complicated. Junior forward Dalton Bancroft has signed a one-year entry-level contract with the Boston Bruins, meaning he will forgo his senior season to kick start his professional career.
