One person had to be extricated from a car after a three-vehicle crash west of Santa Maria on Wednesday. At approximately 5:20 p.m., personnel from the Santa Maria Fire Department, California Highway Patrol and American Medical Response were dispatched to the incident in the 2100 block of West Main Street (also Highway 166). The three-vehicle crash sent one car into the ditch at the intersection of West Main Street and Black Road.

A parade of people spoke up Tuesday night about the value of the Lompoc Valley Chamber of Commerce, calling it the backbone of the community while pushing the Lompoc City Council to reconsider a funding cut. The cities of Santa Maria and Solvang have asked residents and businesses to conserve water due to an emergency State Water Project pipeline shutdown. The alerts issuedthis week were attributed to “a scheduled emergency shutdown” of the pipeline for repairs expected to take four days. Crews intend to inspect and repair a leak in the transmission line for the State Water Project, managed by the California Department of Water Resources and conveyed by the Central Coast Water Authority.

The Santa Maria Field Office for the California Department of Motor Vehicles will close at 5 p.m. Friday for approximately six weeks. Closure of the old office at 523 S. McClelland St. will come as the state agency’s move into a new building at 2850 Santa Maria Way.
