30 years ago, one of the strongest tornadoes in New England history hit western Massachusetts. An F-4 tornado struck Great Barrington, Massachusetts on May 29, 1995. It killed three people, injured 24, and caused an estimated $25 million in damage according to the National Weather Service. May 29 was Memorial Day that year, and a cluster of severe storms developed in eastern New York in the late afternoon.

Expect another wet weekend in Southern New England to end May and begin June. Cloudy for the remainder of Thursday with a few lingering areas of light rain or drizzle possible into the early evening. Highs Thursday in the mid-60s. Friday looks like a decent day for outdoor plans with a mostly cloudy sky and highs in the low 70s. There's a slight chance for a pop-up rain shower Friday afternoon mainly across Providence County, but most of Friday will be dry.

New Englanders have a couple of beautiful, warmer days to enjoy on Tuesday and Wednesday. A beautiful day for the beach on Tuesday, but the water will be cold and the UV index will be very high, so be sure to wear sunscreen! (WJAR)High pressure will take control of our weather for the mid-week, with a mostly sunny sky and light winds on Tuesday, allowing temperatures to reach the mid-70s. A touch cooler at the coast on Tuesday and Wednesday, but not a huge difference.

Expect improving weather for the second half of this Memorial Day holiday weekend across Southern New England. A mostly cloudy sky will stick around on Sunday, but expect a dry day with high temperatures a few degrees warmer in the mid-60s during the afternoon. Expect a cloudy sky on Sunday with temperatures reaching the low to mid-60s in the afternoon.

Southern New Englanders can look forward to improving weather for the holiday weekend as an area of low pressure slowly loses its grip on the region. That low pressure will keep clouds in place most of Saturday and Sunday, but the rain chance will be very low. Just a slight chance for a passing shower on Saturday, and Sunday should be dry. Temperatures will gradually warm up this weekend. Still cool for late May on Saturday with highs in the low 60s. Highs climb into the mid-60s Sunday afternoon.

I’m convinced people aren’t happy with yes or no sometimes. So often, people will request a song and I say, “yes” they don’t believe me and ask four more times for confirmation. I say, “no” and it’s met with vengeance. 🤣🤣🤣
