    Kauaʻi this week became the first of the major islands in Hawaiʻi to be fully fiber-enabled. It's part of Hawaiian Telcom's plan to make Hawaiʻi the first state in the U.S. to be fully fiber-enabled by the end of 2026. Molokaʻi and Lānaʻi were the first islands to become fiber-enabled two years ago. The addition of Kauaʻi this week now means 65% of Hawaiʻi can have broadband internet access through a fiber-optic connection.

    Kaiser Permanente is expanding its operations on Maui by buying a property next door to its Wailuku clinic. But that purchase will have a direct impact on the Valley Isle's oldest continuously published newspaper. Kaiser paid more than $13 million for a six-acre property that's near the Maui Memorial Medical Center. The seller was Ogden Newspapers. That's the mainland owner of The Maui News, which prints its newspaper there. But not for much longer. The Maui News said it will shut down the press.

    A program that helps take companies that make products in Hawaiʻi to the next level in business is about to hit a big milestone. Mana Up will launch its 10th cohort next week with 10 Hawaiʻi companies looking to grow their businesses. Mana Up co-founder Meli James says her goal was to help grow 100 Hawaiʻi product companies that each make $10 million or more in annual revenue. That’s a billion dollars.

    The self-storage market in Hawaiʻi is growing. Companies are making deals to put more facilities across the state. A lot of the real estate deals for self-storage facilities in Hawaiʻi involve mainland investors and large national self-storage companies. For example, U-Haul has plans for new self-storage buildings on Kauaʻi and Oʻahu. On Maui, New Mexico-based DXD Capital is opening a new facility this year in Kīhei.

    A company that provides services to the airlines at Honolulu's Daniel K. Inouye International Airport is ending its operations there. That means dozens of workers will lose their jobs. Seventy employees who work for Oshkosh Airport Services at the Honolulu airport will face job cuts next month. That's because the Wisconsin-based company says it's ending operations in Honolulu.
