The Vallejo City Council took steps toward speeding up police reforms on Tuesday, approving an ad-hoc subcommittee to monitor the reforms and appointing three members to the committee. The council also chose a contractor to repair the Mare Island Causeway Bridge and tentatively designated funds for entertainment at the Solano County Fair.

Vallejo residents who applied to serve on three of the city’s most important boards and commissions will interview with city council members in a public meeting Wednesday. Council members will interview applicants for the Measure P Oversight Committee, the Police Oversight and Accountability Commission and the Surveillance Advisory Board. Unlike conventional job interviews, these interviews are open. Members of the public can attend in person or watch the video live.

The council unanimously approved the proposed subcommittee in February in the first step of a two-step process. If approved Tuesday, it will become a reality. The subcommittee's mission is to ensure that mandated police reforms are completed in a timely manner.
