Yesterday, Feb. 10, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth signed a memorandum renaming Fort Liberty in North Carolina to Fort Bragg. The new name now pays tribute to a different significant military figure in history, Pfc. Roland L. Bragg. Bragg was a World War II hero who earned the Silver Star and Purple Heart for his exceptional courage during the Battle of the Bulge.

Cumberland County Emergency Services received two AccuRAD Personal Radiation Detectors (PRDs), made possible through a grant from CSX Corporation. The radiation detectors, which are handheld, will enhance the County’s radiological response capabilities. The AccuRAD monitors were presented during the Cumberland County Fire Chiefs Association regular meeting held Monday, Nov. 25 at the Emergency Operations Center.

Clifton McNeill Jr. was inducted into the Cumberland County Agricultural Hall of Fame in a ceremony held at the Judge E. Maurice Braswell Cumberland County Courthouse Friday, Nov. 22. McNeill’s official portrait was unveiled during the ceremony and will hang on the wall with those of past inductees in the I.B.
