And of all the home-grown brands so beloved by their countries of provenance, is there any more synonymous with its national identity than Raffles Singapore?

Can frozen yoghurt ever be worth £36? That’s the philosophical question I’m grappling with tonight, as I make my way from Tatler HQ to Mayfair’s Dover Street for dinner at the glittering Dubai/Monaco-import Gaia. This may just be the crown jewel of London’s Instagrammable restaurants, with its opulent seafood display and tableside lobster pasta. But I’m not here for the signature sea bream carpaccio or black truffle pasta.
