In Frankreich hat es nicht nur die Mode besser als in Deutschland. Auch die Politik. Emmanuel Macron leitet das Land aus dem wunderschönen Élysée-Palast heraus, direkt auf der Rue Saint-Honoré gelegen. Prachtgebäude, Riesengarten, mitten in der Stadt. Auch das Außenministerium an der Seine ist so riesig und pompös angelegt, dass es Staatsgäste gleich vor Ehrfurcht erzittern lässt und ja, fast jedes Ministerium in Paris sieht toll aus.

Oh, how great it is to helm the coolest and fastest growing fashion brand in the world and dictate all the trends. Bare mid-riffs, boat shoes, wrong trainers, brown leather, men’s wear and Miu Miu logos everywhere. It’s all been so of the moment at Miu Miu recently and while the season has been all about body enhancing padding and exaggerated shapes Miuccia Prada chose to end fashion week with a history class and some perverse interpretation of the past for now.

Duran LantinkEvery decade or so a groundbreaking photography or design talent comes from Holland. In 2025 it’s Carlijn Jacobs and Duran Lantink (remember Inez&Vinoodh or Viktor&Rolf) who energized yesterday’s calm fashion Sunday with a show that merged silhouette, pattern, and Zeitgeist to make it the talk of the day and dare we say week. The idea of the exaggerated female form is becoming a trend on other runways now, but Lantik can claim it as his very own.

In our humble opinion Bernard Arnault is so successful because he believes in history and roots for his brands more than anything. No other luxury conglomerate is as meticulous at shining up the past for their brands as LVMH. So, no surprise Arnault picked veteran designer Sarah Burton when she was free after Alexander McQueen because she is a master of nurturing roots. Burton’s steady and assured hand kept the house alive after the designer’s death.

Maybe Matthieu Blazy’s first look for his first collection at Bottega Veneta exactly three years ago best sums up what fashion has been all about. A tank top and jeans which were not made from cotton but leather.

Chanel is without a designer at the moment and the rumor mill is in overdrive. Talk of Jacquemus, Pieter Mulier or Thom Browne as reported by Puck News seem nonsense to ACHTUNG. If we had our vote – it should be a female designer in a year when America might elect its first woman. Or here is a fun idea. Ask Miuccia Prada to sub for a season or two? It would be the ultimate collab flying out of stores, harming nobody and simply fun. Isn’t Prada the modern-day Gabrielle anyway?

Bally has a new owner in the American businessman Michael Reinstein who runs the private equity firm Regent. This means that one of the richest families in Germany – the Reimanns – has sold off their last fashion investment and are focusing on non-luxury consumer goods. Regent also owns Escada, and it will be interesting to see what will happen to two of the German-speaking world’s finest luxury brands.

This had to work for Sabato de Sarno who has been working on his Gucci project for one year now. Judging from the mood, the Kering clan is giving him the time he needs and that was a wise choice as he is a clothing designer at his core and not the social-media-friendly creative director he was forced to be. He finally found his own show space at the contemporary art museum Triennale which the company took over for men’s for the first time already.

Let’s face it, Prada is one of the only brands which doesn’t tour the world with museum shows of its archives to increase equity even while the company is an esteemed member of the international museum world with its Fondazione. Miss Prada probably finds it too banal. But the new collection which was a commentary on the over information by algorithm fed into our daily lives via mobile devices was used to create a best-of Prada wardrobe from over the years.
