One fin of the rocket reads, “We’re so back.” On another, “For real this time.” Between the fins were the names of University of Southern California students, scrawled in Sharpie, which burned off from the heat as the rocket propelled itself past Earth’s atmosphere on Oct. 20. According to the USC Rocket Propulsion Laboratory (RPL) report, students successfully launched their rocket to a max height of 470,400 feet (143 kilometers).

UCLA has taken down the Daily Bruin website (https://t.co/pM1MLFobH8). I’ve been told it was done to sensor the student journalists. They sent me a copy of their most recent article before the site was taken down.

Andrew McConnell Stott, USC’s vice provost for academic programs and the dean of the graduate school, said Friday the Academic Achievement Award (AAA) program won’t fully end as previously suggested. In an interview with Annenberg Media and the Daily Trojan, Stott provided an update to students left confused following the March 7 news that USC was shuttering the AAA. “I have heard from a lot of students obviously and I understand, I’m sympathetic,” Stott said.

Police detained a suspect in front of Wallis Annenberg Hall on Thursday evening. The man was handcuffed as three surrounding Department of Public Safety vehicles were stationed around the scene. DPS didn’t disclose what was allegedly shoplifted. A USC sweatshirt, multiple knives, and miscellaneous personal belongings were placed on the hood of the DPS vehicle. In a showdown for the U.S. Senate seat to replace the late Dianne Feinstein, candidates met on a debate stage at USC. The USC Dornsife Center for the Political Future, Politico and FOX 11 co-hosted the debate on Jan. 22. Democratic House Reps. Barbara Lee (12th District), Adam Schiff (30th District), Katie Porter (47th District) and former Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Steve Garvey, the sole Republican candidate, are running for the seat Feinstein held for decades.

A man lying down in Alumni Park was removed from campus today around 2 p.m. by two DPS officers. They were responding to a tip from LiveSafe, USC’s mobile safety app, that a man was allegedly lighting a fire on campus. DPS said that when the officers arrived, smoke was present at the scene. The man had plastic grocery bags, a bike, backpack and other personal belongings with him which he packed up after being approached by and talking with the officers.
