As the vote count rolls, our journalists roll out across the county to get a snapshot of what L.A. election day looks like as we near the end of this election season. California voting centers will close at 8 p.m. tonight before the ballots are processed, meanwhile several election watch parties are occurring. This is a momentous election where uncertainty turns everyone’s eyes to what our next four years will look like.

Over the last month, students across the nation set up encampments on their campuses, protesting Israeli assaults and genocide in Gaza. As students demanded their universities divest from weapons manufacturers and other companies linked to the Israeli military, they were met with violence, both from police and counter protestors. After USC canceled its 2024 valedictorian Asna Tabassum’s commencement speech, student journalists found themselves uniquely positioned to cover a national news story.

DPS officers detained two USC students at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday behind the Ronald Tutor Campus Center for stealing wooden pallets outside of the USC bookstore. Eight officers were called to respond to a theft investigation and were present behind the Campus Center when detaining the students. Reporters on the scene witnessed officers tackling one of the suspects next to encampment protesters and then escorting the person into a DPS vehicle.

Wherever you go on campus, there are a multitude of trash bins, all separated into categories in order to be more friendly to the environment. As USC continues to celebrate Earth Day, we looked at how sustainable Trojans really are. Freshman Joy Wang has a few ways she is able to practice sustainability. Fellow freshman Egan Waklole chooses to change her diet in order to be more in tune with the earth. Other students, Like Sandy Cull feel that we still have more to accomplish.
