SAN JOSE - A person of interest was detained in connection with a stabbing Monday in unincorporated San Jose after an hours-long standoff, authorities said. The stabbing was reported just before 3:40 p.m. on South Bascom Avenue, near Elliott Street, according to the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office. Deputies arrived to find a man suffering from an apparent stab wound. The victim was taken to an area hospital. An update on his condition was not immediately available.

OAKLAND - A firefighter suffered minor burns while battling a blaze Monday in Oakland, according to authorities. The fire broke out around 3:20 p.m. at a two-story home near the intersection of 98th Avenue and Lawlor Street, Oakland fire Battalion Chief Anthony Sanders said in an interview. Sanders said crews from a fire station across the street arrived at the scene seconds later. "We ended up going to two alarms due to the amount of fire that was coming up through the roof on arrival," he said.

UNION CITY - A man found dead inside a parked car last month in Union City has finally been identified as 36-year-old Hayward resident Raul Torres, police said. Officers were initially called to the 33500 block of 3rd Street around 4:10 p.m. on April 14 for a report of a suspicious vehicle, according to the Union City Police Department. Inside the car, they discovered a body that appeared to have been there for several weeks.

PORTOLA VALLEY - The search continued Friday for a 79-year-old Redwood City woman who went missing a day earlier while hiking in the Windy Hill Open Space Preserve. Margaret "Elaine" McKinley, who has dementia, became separated from her family and was last seen around noon Thursday walking along the Lost Trail, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office. She was wearing a red jacket and black pants.
