Los Angeles County will pay $2.7 million to a teenager whose assault at Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall led to the discovery of a series of “gladiator-style” fights and the indictment of 30 probation employees. The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors authorized the settlement Tuesday, June 3, without discussion, in response to a claim filed by the mother of the teenager, Jose Rivas Barillas. A claim typically is a precursor to a lawsuit.

Dozens of Black Series RVs, towed away from an unpermitted storage lot in Wildomar, remain impounded in Lake Elsinore nearly a month later and could soon be forfeited. Black Series, based in Upland, must pay more than $300,000 in fees to secure the release of the vehicles, according to a source who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to share the information.
