Defense Coming in HotFirst to bat, the Sharks (1-8) couldn’t find any gaps in the Wolves’ defense. Cecil Collins and Micah DeHaven made contact with the ball, but the Wolves immediately reacted with back-to-back outs. Eladio Lamberson walked and then stole second, but it was not enough as Saint Francis winning pitcher McCabe Long struck out the next batter.

Electrifying StartThe Bobcats (6-9) and Celtics (10-4) started with an intense first quarter. There were extreme face-offs and scores from both teams. Bobcats lead scorer Jace Howard refused the immediate defeat from the Celtics. This raised tension among the teams, resulting in high strife.

Stakes are high this week for high school basketball. In the 3A-District 2 tournament, the two seed P.K. Yonge Blue Wave girls team defeated the Bradford Tornadoes in the semifinals, 52-44, on Wednesday. However, their work will not stop here. Blue Wave Slam TornadoesBy the second quarter, P.K. Yonge (13-7) had racked up 21 points, putting them ahead by two (21-19) entering the second half. The three seed Tornadoes (14-9) could not keep up.

The three-seeded Hurricanes (15-11) will play at two seed Tallahassee Lincoln (18-5) in the district semifinals Thursday. Top seed Buchholz (16-9) hosts Lynn Haven Mosley (16-9) in Thursday’s other semifinal. The championship game is set for Saturday.

Tonight Buchholz is celebrating 6 seniors in the Class of 2024.

After a night full of unknowns, Newberry girls soccer prevailed against Trinity Catholic by a final score of 3-0 on January 25. Uncertainty loomed over the Newberry girls soccer team, as they were missing six starters due to an academic conference in Orlando. “ I have a really great team of girls this year,” said head coach Ellie Chenoweth. They are definitely special and I’m so proud of what they have accomplished on and off the field.
