Once a week Eve Duke performs for her fellow residents at the Jazz Café. “It makes me feel good, because it means I’m actually doing something they like, and that’s good,” said Duke. Born in Washington, D.C., Eve was in her early 20s when she got her big break, discovered by famed jazz composer Duke Ellington who wanted her to sing in his orchestra.

It was a build that took Ken Green eight-and-a-half years in his Burnaby garage. A David vs. Goliath story that put his 1931 Ford Highboy Roadster up against a winning professional team with very deep pockets. "It's known that he probably spent about $3 million to do his build," said Green. Green wants to keep his total cost private, but it was a drop in the bucket compared to that. His car finished runner-up to a 1936 Ford.

They hated her in Japan when she went there to wrestle. Delta Dawn was loathed at the Tokyo Dome in the early 1990s, her wicked snakes despised by everyone in the building. "I was slapped with programs as I was coming out many times because people were just fearful of me getting so close to them with the snake," Dawn Murphy told This is BC. But playing the villain was always the role she relished in the ring. "I always wanted to be able to let out that energy, " said Murphy.

There have been more than a few advancements in technology to enhance a show that Craig F. McCaw has been producing for well over four decades. "I'm 80 now, it's time for my nap. But apparently not," McCaw told This is BC. He's the man behind the laser light craze during the 1980s at the H.R. MacMillan Planetarium. "Every show would sell out. I think we sold out Dark Side of the Moon for an entire year," said McCaw.

They may have just created their own genre of music altogether. "We do China trucker funk, and that's my thing right? It's a big rig rolling down a dusty highway carrying a cargo full of silk," said musician Shon Wong. With his band Son of James, Wong's Chinatown Nights series has been showcasing a mix of younger acts alongside Vancouver legends. "I want to bring a bit of history into it with Henry Young who was a staple here in Chinatown," said Wong.
