Flooding and erosion have resulted in closures to a section of Highway 5 between Valemount and Blue River. Crews have been on scene of the incident since May 31, to repair and flag the road, and control traffic. The flooding is impacting a section of highway near the Chappell Creek Rec Site. Single-lane alternating traffic is in effect and speed reductions are in place. People should expect delays when travelling through the area. The next update will be posted by Drive B.C. on June 3.

On Thursday, MP Gord Johns (Courtenay-Alberni) re-introduced a bill that aims to include community-based mental health, addictions, and substance use services in Canada’s universal, public health care system. The Mental Health Parity Act, Bill C-201, is the first Private Member’s Bill to be introduced in the House of Commons in the 45th Parliament.

A bridge at the end of 6th street in Courtenay is a bit of a hard sell, if that's the only thing the City of Courtenay does. Looked at in isolation, a bridge at 6th street is kind of a weird idea. It will go from a relatively unused part of a park to a street at the bottom of a steep hill that is used mainly by contractors and people going to a hardware store.

Here is why: Grant money: The grant funds allocated for this project are not a magic coupon given to the City of Courtenay by the Government.
