Comedy and science fiction are notoriously difficult genres to combine. And yet Time Travel Is Dangerous pulls it off, with this modestly produced film a delightful British curio that extracts maximum returns from its quirkily assembled, disparate parts. Written by director Chris Reading with producers and sisters Hillary and Anna-Elizabeth Shakespeare, the script is a chaotic, Time Bandits-style romp delivered as a deadpan mockumentary.

A sort of knockabout, two-hander version of the Numskulls, for those familiar with the enduring children's comic strip, My Last Two Brain Cells aspires to be a workplace farce set in the brain of a man who's been in a traumatic incident and whose condition is worsening by the minute. Cerebral it ain't. But creator-performers Joe Pike and Tom Hazelden are a likeable duo who first brought this energetic nonsense to the Fringe a year ago.

Paul Williams’ latest show is framed as a romantic quest, a found footage escapade rendered in technicolour and gorgeous pastels, taking in the boulevards of Paris and the sunlight of Los Angeles. However, it is actually overtly and excessively dark – but he has fun pretending otherwise. It’s there in the musically gifted Kiwi’s impassioned opening song, an expression of glorious optimism that now is his time to shine, as well as sharing his affection for his tech.
