It wasn’t a dare, but it sure felt like it: Eat as many fair foods as you can in one hour — go!That’s exactly what we did Friday morning as part of the third annual Fair-Tastic Foods Competition, where we joined 27 other judges who chose the best of this year’s culinary offerings at the San Diego County Fair, which opened Wednesday. Earlier judging winnowed down the list to 18 finalists, all of whom served their dishes to judges Friday.

A 22-year-old motorcycle rider died Saturday morning after he collided with a truck in Poway, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office said. The rider was traveling along State Route 67 near Ellie Lane when he crashed head-on with a Ford truck hauling a boat, the Sheriff’s Office said. The motorcycle rider died at the scene. His name has not been released pending notification of family members. An investigation into the crash is ongoing.

The fire was first reported around 5:40 p.m. Friday on Henderson Road near Oaks Road and was 40% contained as of Saturday evening, according to Cal Fire. One structure, described as a travel trailer, was destroyed in the fire, officials said.
