SPRINGFIELD — The School Committee has scheduled a public hearing on the upcoming year’s proposed budget and is asking people to weigh in on their funding priorities. The budget for fiscal year 2026, which begins in July, is roughly $671 million, which will be a 6.9% increase over this year’s $627 million budget. SPRINGFIELD — The City Council officially transferred a small parcel of land on Marble Street to the Parks Department to add to the size of Emerson Wright Park. The property measures 6,019 square feet, is next to the park and has been used and maintained by the Parks Department, but it was never formally moved from the city’s tax title custodian, said Laura Walsh, senior project manager for the department. Part of the splash pad is also on the land, she said.

SPRINGFIELD – The federal government has slashed a grant that provided hands-on science and engineering lessons for Springfield children, ending a learning opportunity for an estimated 1,000 third-graders. Officials at the Hitchcock Center for the Environment in Amherst learned last week that two of its federal grants totaling roughly $583,000 have been cut.
