PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - Sure Oneil Cruz hit a couple of home runs and Andrew McCutchen continues to swing a good bat, but the Pirates have won two of the last three series for the very reason you would have thought before the year began, starting pitching. Over the last eight home starts, every one went five innings and the worst start of those eight was by Paul Skenes. If at any time through a rotation Skenes is your worst start, you feel good about the rest of the staff.

CRANBERRY TWP., PA (93.7 The Fan) - Tristan Jarry said he knows there will be competition, but he wants to be the Pens starting goalie next season and will fight to keep his job. It's not a contract situation, he will go into year three of a five-year deal to begin 2025-26. That helps him for as much as he's signed and the $5.375 million a year will make him tougher to trade. Joel Blomqvist already took some of his starts. He will be healthy next year with that experience behind him.

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - Pens close out a third straight season missing the playoffs beating Washington 5-2. In some ways the better play at the end has made this harder while Bryan Rust reaches a milestone and a look at the final numbers. The season ends as the Pens won three of the last four, four of the last six and points in six of the last eight games. The first reaction from Bryan Rust to those numbers are that they should have won more games earlier in the season.
