Maryland big man Braden Pierce committed to Villanova Thursday, joining new Wildcats coach Kevin Willard in moving from College Park to the Main Line. Pierce, a 7-footer, appeared in just five games off the bench as a redshirt freshman this past season for Maryland before suffering a season-ending eye injury. He has at least three seasons of eligibility left and could have a fourth if he is granted a medical redshirt for this past season.

Rory McIlroy, who finally joined the exclusive club of players to win all four of golf’s majors with his dramatic Masters victory this past Sunday, will officially be playing at the 2025 Truist Championship next month in Flourtown. McIlroy earlier this week committed to playing in the event at the Philadelphia Cricket Club’s Wissahickon course. McIlroy is the defending champion of the Truist, previously named the Wells Fargo Championship. He also won the event in 2021, 2015, and 2010.

Robert Wright, the Philadelphia native who just finished his freshman basketball season at Baylor University, reportedly had reached a deal with Baylor that would pay him more than $1 million for the 2025-26 season. But then BYU showed up with a theoretical Brink’s truck, overflowing with cash from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Wright’s services, once valued at more than $1 million, were now worth more than $3 million, according to multiple reports.

Temple transfer Zion Stanford, a two-time all-state selection at West Catholic High School, will continue his collegiate career at Villanova. Stanford, who announced his commitment Monday on social media, visited Villanova over the weekend and is staying in the Big 5 after two seasons at Temple. He averaged 13.1 points and 4.5 rebounds during his sophomore season while shooting 34.9% from three-point range.

St. Joseph's point guard Xzayvier Brown entered the transfer portal Monday afternoon and will be leaving the university to continue his basketball career. His entry in the portal comes with a "do not contact" tag, usually a sign that a player has a destination in mind. Brown was a first-team all-conference selection as a sophomore this past season after winning the Atlantic 10's freshman of the year award a year earlier.
