EBS STAFFA new law in Montana will shorten the timeframe for filing as a municipal candidate to three weeks, between May 27 and June 11. The previous filing period was April 17 to June 16. Bozeman, Belgrade, Manhattan, Three Forks and West Yellowstone will elect city commissioners and councils on Nov. 4. Interested candidates must file for available seats between May 27 and June 11.

EBS STAFF The Gallatin County Sheriff Search and Rescue communications team is looking for new members to provide logistical support and communication assistance to on-the-ground teams. In a May 22 Facebook post, the search and rescue team shared that the office is looking for new members to contribute to vital communications, mapping and logistical support to air, ground and water teams throughout Gallatin County and across the state of Montana.

She remembers the night that a letter was taped to her apartment door and the dread that it brought in the morning. The problem, according to the 41-year-old single mother who moved from the Crow Indian Reservation, was that her landlord refused to add her father to the apartment’s lease and wanted him off the property.

EBS STAFF Montana’s first high school, an 1876-built schoolhouse in Virginia City, will become an arts center with the help of a recent state grant. On May 6, the Montana Historical Society’s State Historic Preservation Office announced a $40,000 grant for the first phase of a project to convert the Virginia City Schoolhouse into a year-round arts education center. The building is currently under lease by the Virginia City Schoolhouse Foundation.

By Jen Clancey STAFF WRITER WGM Group, ECOnorthwest and M2O Group are expected to hold another public meeting this summer to present findings of surveys and insights collected regarding Big Sky’s potential local governance options. The date is a few months after an expected March meeting, which would have reviewed survey results, and was postponed after a busy local election and Montana legislative season.
