Roughly one in three Americans have a cat at home. But they’re kind of misunderstood in the veterinary world - especially compared to their canine peers. The Insight team hit the road recently and visited Cat Tales in Davis, which is a health center created solely for felines. They also opened Tabby Tea Cat Lounge and Adoption Center, where the public can make a reservation to hang with shelter cats.

Saturday’s attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump is not the first time political violence has happened in America. Abraham Lincoln was the first American president to be assassinated, shot by John Wilkes Booth on April 14, 1865 while watching a play at Ford’s Theatre in Washington.

Take a moment to picture some of Sacramento's iconic architecture. The Tower Bridge as the sun sets. The mid-century modernism of the Sacramento Zoo. The Sacramento water tower. Now picture them with even more nature surrounding them (and still with “City of Trees” written on them). Or perhaps as the star of their own pulp fiction sci-fi novel. Sacramento artist Jennifer Peart is bringing her love of nature, architecture and science fiction to landscape painting, and the results are stunning.

Perhaps you’ve noticed the egg aisle at the grocery store sometimes being completely empty. At the Safeway in Pollock Pines, signs posted apologize for the inconvenience, blaming an outbreak of avian influenza. The “Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza,” or H5N1 virus, has been affecting wild birds across the country since at least 2021. More recently, the virus jumped to chicken and other poultry birds, elephant seals and now dairy cattle.

Do you know what to do if you find a fawn alone? Every spring, wildlife rehabilitation groups across Northern California are inundated with calls from people who have come across a baby deer and worry that they’re orphaned. Most of the time, they’re not. Dave Cook fields many of these calls in our area. He’s a facilitator and fawn rehabber for Sierra Wildlife Rescue in El Dorado County. He spoke with Insight host Vicki Gonzalez about the start of fawn season.
