BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (WTNH) — The Connecticut Office of the Inspector General released its preliminary report and body camera footage of a Bridgeport police officer shooting a 39-year-old man on March 31. The inspector general’s office said that, according to initial police reports, Bridgeport Police Officers Yoon Heo and Erin Perrotta responded at around 5:50 p.m. to East Main Street for the report of a large fight.

CORNWALL, Conn. (WTNH) — The historic Cornwall Covered Bridge was damaged on Thursday by an oversized vehicle that tried to cross it, according to state police. Troopers said the vehicle became stuck on the bridge and caused some damage to it. The bridge was closed briefly to remove the vehicle. Engineers from the Connecticut Department of Transportation determined it was safe to use, and the road was reopened.

NEW LONDON, Conn. (WTNH) — A police officer who has been arrested four times has been fired from the New London Police Department, Mayor Michael Passero announced on Thursday. Julio Gil-Martinez, 29, was placed on leave from the department after being charged with two counts of violation of protective order — one from March 14 and the other from March 15.
