Several referendums were on Tuesday’s ballot, with a school referendum in Whitewater passing, while Elkhorn’s failed. Whitewater Unified School District, with all votes in from Walworth, Rock and Jefferson County, passed its referendum with 3,012 “yes” votes and 2,755 “no” votes. Elkhorn’s, meanwhile, failed, with 4,057 “no” votes and 3,446 “yes” votes.

Late in the afternoon last Thursday, Darien Fire/EMS was dispatched to a report of structure fire with flames and smoke visible at N2886 North Rd. in the Township of Darien, according to a press release from officials. Automatic mutual aid response was dispatched at the same time – at about 4:45 p.m., Thursday, March 27 – from Sharon, the City of Delavan and the Town of Delavan.

On Jan. 17, village trustees passed a resolution to exceed the state levy limit of .602% to 10.085% at a special meeting.

By Jennifer EisenbarteditorA motion hearing has been set for Feb. 18 in Walworth County Circuit Court for a 23-year-old man accused of killing a University of Wisconsin-Whitewater student athlete in August. Chad T. Richards was in court for a status conference Jan. 23, where Judge Estee Scholtz went over the facts that discovery is still being reviewed. She then set the motion hearing.
