I had to explain to a non-industry person what residuals are and why they are so important to writers, actors and directors. I realized that most people don’t understand the concept of getting paid for your work beyond the initial “job”. So I thought I’d share some background here on what residuals are for those of you who aren’t in the biz. Residuals are compensation for film and TV work every time it is re-aired (reruns) and sold or rented on home video and online (TVOD).
