ATHENS, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Fall classes got underway Wednesday at several Georgia colleges, and returning University of Georgia students are noticing safety enhancements. The university invested $7.3 million this year in safety enhancements, including better lighting, license plate readers, 15 camera-protected emergency call stations, and new security fencing.

DECATUR, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Storms took out power across multiple areas of metro Atlanta and North Georgia overnight. The high winds and heavy rain even toppled a tree onto a car and house Shadowbrook Place in Decatur. Officials said a 27-year-old man was killed in Cherokee County after a large tree limb fell on his car Tuesday evening. Officials identified the victim as, Levi Benjamin Wilson of Woodstock.

AUSTELL, Ga. (Atlanta News First/Gray News) - A 50-year-old man was rescued Friday morning after being trapped in a well in Georgia for several hours overnight. A Cobb County Fire and Emergency Services heavy rescue team responded to the 7000 block of Hartman Road in Austell on Friday at around 4:45 a.m. Officials said 911 dispatchers initially received a call about a man trapped in a well at that location.

AUSTELL, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A big change of policy will go into effect Friday at Six Flags Over Georgia. The theme park is putting a chaperone policy in place. Starting July 26, anyone under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult to stay in the park past 4 p.m.Six Flags says they’ve seen a spike in unruly behavior among young people in Atlanta and in other parks, and they are hoping the new policy deters problems.
