Jullaney McKee never really meant to get into the world of dog rescue, but after a traumatizing past she realized she had more in common with the canines than she would have assumed. “I was a victim of sex trafficking, and I went through times when I was starving,” said McKee. “I was beaten in. I was abused. I was sold. So I felt like I really related to (the dogs). I had two little dogs that were with me when I went through all that that were used as leverage to keep me doing things.

Nevada Irrigation District (NID) made the decision Wednesday to go along with the suggestion of Customer Service Administrator Aurora Penaluna and Water Efficiency Technician Kaycee Strong and alter the Mulch Magic Giveaway, though not without slight pushback from some members of the board of directors. Said suggestion—which was ultimately approved by the board—will offer NID customers the chance to purchase their own mulch and in turn receive a rebate of up to $50 for their efforts.
