Viral hepatitis is a major danger to public health. According to WHO’s 2024 Global Hepatitis Report, viral hepatitis deaths increased from 1.1 million in 2019 to 1.3 million in 2022, rates now similar to tuberculosis. Hepatitis B virus caused 83% of these deaths and hepatitis C virus 17%. Health disparities contribute to the persistence of viral hepatitis.
