    Petaluma police are warning drivers to avoid Ely Boulevard at Capistrano Way on Wednesday afternoon due to a “major traffic incident” that appears to have resulted in a fatality. The notice, sent out around 3:10 p.m., did not elaborate on the incident, and police have not yet provided details. But witnesses at the scene reported seeing evidence of a fatality.

Dozens of onlookers stood at Ely Boulevard South near Capistrano Way while privacy screens concealed the body of the unidentified bicyclist, who was struck around 3 p.m. A black-and-white bicycle remained in the roadway near a silver SUV with a cracked windshield.
