High-profile cardiac arrests, like Damar Hamlin’s, have really brought the importance of life-saving skills to the spotlight. The average person has the capability of saving a life with CPR and an AED, as long as one is near. There’s a renewed push to make sure they’re on every athletic field that kids in Pennsylvania play on. Spencer Davis is alive because there was an AED on his field in Hollidaysburg, about 2 hours east of Pittsburgh. He plays football for Hollidaysburg Area Senior High School.

PITTSBURGH — At least 100 firefighters from the City of Pittsburgh have lost their lives in the line of duty over the course of the department’s history, including one recently. Now, there’s a memorial being built to honor and educate. When Channel 11′s Jennifer Tomazic sat down with the firefighters for this story, she had no idea what was to come later that day. After no line of duty deaths for 20 years, that night Pittsburgh firefighter and Battalion Chief John Walsh died.

One Pittsburgh-area organization has a solution that helps our aging veterans and their families to remain in their homes. Betty Horning, 93, is still in the home where she raised her family. She’s still telling stories about her late husband Ernest’s army service. “They selected him to be the driver of the officials,” Horning said.

He was the first Pennsylvanian with HIV to have a kidney transplant from a donor with HIV. Now, six years later, the New England Journal of Medicine just published data from 200 patients.
