She’s been putting pen to paper since she was a kid and now Myriah Saulnier has published her first book. The Braeside author wrote “Killer in the Mirror,” a mystery-suspense thriller released on Aug. 1. “I’ve pretty much always been a writer,” explained Saulnier. “Even as a small child; always making up stories, waking up from dreams and finishing the story that I had in them.”Writing even helped her pay for college, she noted, where she studied media and communications, along with journalism.

The goal is to get people talking. Compassionate North Grenville is a grassroots initiative, led by facilitators Rick Baker, Lorraine Mercer and Amy Tibben, to educate the public and start conversations. “About end-of-life care, hospice care, palliative care, how to support caregivers, how our community can better support grief and bereavement,” explained Tibben, outreach co-ordinator at Beth Donovan Hospice (BDH).

Clay Williams has run thousands of kilometres to raise awareness and funds for mental health. He started the Canal Pursuit for Mental Health in 2015 and has raised more than $140,000 for the Mood Disorders Society of Canada to date. The 10th annual marathon begins in Port Severn on Saturday, Aug. 17 and will pass through Merrickville on Friday, Aug. 23, finishing that day at Burritts Rapids. Williams will run the final section on Saturday, Aug.

A landmark building in Kemptville is getting a new lease on life. The former Clothier Mills Inn, located at 8 Clothier St. E. in Kemptville, is undergoing a complete renovation to construct eight new apartments and one commercial unit. Owner Luke Geleynse, who runs Geleynse Earthworks, said the goal is to finish the project by Nov. 1. “We basically have interior finishing to do; plumbing is roughed in, electrical is roughed in, HVAC is going in this week,” he explained.

The Forest of Dreams project is getting ready to break ground in Kemptville. The 18,000-square-foot recreational facility, at the corner of Van Buren St. and Kingdom Road, has been in the works for two years. The project is the brainchild of four local partners: Andrew Leang, Mary-Anne Leang (co-owner of Kemptville Infinity), and Yuki Yamanaka and Milena Hrebacka (owners of Boss Thai Boxing & Fitness).
