Six beaches near Ottawa 'not suitable for swimming'

Health officials are advising people to stay out of the water at six beaches near Ottawa because of high levels of bacteria. The Leeds, Grenville, and Lanark District Health Unit says it has found elevated levels of E.coli at the Almonte beach, Riverside beach and Centennial beach in Carleton Place, Merrickville beach, Bellamy Park beach in Kitley, and Dalhousie Lake in Lanark Highlands.
2 injured in impaired driving crash on Hwy. 417: Ottawa OPP

The OPP says two people were injured in a collision on Highway 417 on Saturday. Police say that just before 2 a.m., the vehicle hit a barrier on Kent Street before rolling over. Both the driver and passenger were brought to hospital and were treated for minor injuries. OPP officers charged the driver with impaired driving and say they registered "more than twice the legal limit". They have been hit with a 90-day driver's licence suspension and their vehicle was impounded for seven days.
Redblacks add to winless Elks' misery with win in Ottawa

Playing two games five days apart wasn't ideal, but the Ottawa Redblacks liked the end result after posting back-to-back wins over the Edmonton Elks with a 20-14 victory Friday night. The win allowed Ottawa to improve to 4-2 on the season and remain undefeated at TD Place. Things continue to spiral for the Elks who fell to 0-6 and continue to search for answers. Edmonton was hoping to find a spark with Jarious Jackson making his CFL head coaching debut, but came up short - again.
Ottawa teacher charged with sexual assault against minors

The Ottawa Police service have charged a local teacher for sexual assaults against minors. They say the assaults happened at Ottawa based programs and schools since 2019. Police say the 37-year-old teacher has been charged with sexual assault, voyeurism, sexual exploitation and telecommunication with a person under the age of 18 for a specific criminal offence. He is scheduled to appear in court on Saturday. Investigators say they believe there could be other victims.
A scorching weekend forecast as heat wave in Halifax continues

Environment Canada says that a heat warning for Halifax and most of the province will continue throughout the weekend and into next week. According to the weather agency, the high temperatures and scorching humidex will continue until Wednesday. "Currently, warning conditions are not expected for the southwestern corner of the province, however these conditions may begin to be met in that area on Sunday," wrote officials.
Middle Sackville crash leaves 2 injured after fleeing from police

The RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment says they are investigating a crash involving serious injuries that happened on Saturday. Police say that at around 3:35 a.m., officers attempted a traffic stop on a suspected impaired driver who was merging into traffic onto Highway 101 from Beaverbank Road. According to police, the driver refused to stop and, in the interest of public safety, the officer decided not to persue.
Ottawa man killed in Westboro shooting

An Ottawa man is dead after being shot in the capital's west end on Friday evening. The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) says that the shooting happened at around 6:09 p.m. near Carling and Kirkwood Avenue. Police have identified the victim as 28-year-old Adam Abdullahi Elmi. Investigators say that no suspects are in custody and the investigation is ongoing. They are asking the public for surveillance video from anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the shooting.
Halifax RCMP searching for man that fled a car crash off Hwy. 101

RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment is requesting the public's assistance to locate a man who fled on foot from a single motor vehicle crash early on Saturday morning. Police say the crash happened just before 4 a.m. at Exit 2A off Highway 101. The Mounties describe the man as wearing black pants, white shoes and no shirt with a tattoo on his neck. Police believe he was injured in the crash. Anyone who may have seen this man or has info on his whereabouts, is asked to call Halifax RCMP at 902-490-5020.
Kings County man wanted on province-wide warrant arrested: RCMP

Nova Scotia RCMP says that a Kings County man wanted on a province-wide arrest warrant has been arrested. The Mounties say that 43-year-old Joel Mathew Gibson, who was wanted for failure to comply with a probation order, was located on Sunday. Police said they previously made several attempts to find Gibson and asked the public for their assistance in locating the fugitive. The RCMP would like to thank the public for their help.
Ottawa Police investigating shooting death of 19 year old

The Ottawa Police Homicide Unit is investigating the shooting death of a 19-year-old man that happened in the city's east end on Friday. Police say the shooting happened at around 10:00 p.m. in the 1700 block of Russell Road. The victim has been identified as Yousef Salaman of Ottawa. No suspects are in custody and the investigation is ongoing. Investigators are asking the public for any surveillance video from residents and persons who may have been in the area at the time of the incident.
