NEWTON, NJ—Newton High School student athletes signed commitment letters to play sports at the colleges of their choice next fall. Andrina Ismail will be attending Drew University to play on the women’s soccer team as a Ranger next year. Max Maslowski will be attending Marywood University, where he has signed on to play on the men’s basketball team. Mashara Edwards signed with Stockton University to continue her career in track and field as a Stockton Osprey.

NEWTON, NJ—Sparta Karate Academy, located on Newton Sparta Road, closed its doors after nine years of being open. However, with its closure, comes the opening of a new location, Byram. Byram Karate Academy held its Open House special event this past weekend, starting on Friday and ending Sunday afternoon. While they opened their doors officially on June 1, 2025, holding the first class on Monday, June 2, the ribbon-cutting ceremony occurred on Friday, June 6.

NEWTON, NJ—The Newton High School boys lacrosse team lost 16-3 when they played away against top-seeded Mountain Lakes in the quarterfinal round of the NJSIAA North Jersey Group 1 tournament on Monday, June 2. Newton started the tournament as the eighth seed team and beat nine-seed Pequannock to move into the quarterfinal round. Mountain Lakes took the lead early on in the first quarter when they scored six goals to Newton’s two.
