WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Local leaders are speaking out after the Vatican announced that Pope Francis, the first Latin American pontiff, died on Easter Monday. He was 88. Francis, who suffered from chronic lung disease and had part of one lung removed as a young man, died nearly a month after he was released from Rome’s Gemelli Hospital, where he spent 38 days for a respiratory crisis that developed into double pneumonia, according to the Associated Press.

The new school, currently known as Elementary School #41, is set for construction near the intersection of Route 144 and Mussetter Road in the eastern part of the county. It is scheduled to open in August 2026.

PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — A collision involving a car and a scooter in Prince George’s County left a Washington, D.C. man dead Tuesday night. The Prince George’s County Police Department (PGPD) said that shortly after 6 p.m. on April 15, officers responded to the 4500 block of Rhode Island Ave. for a crash involving a scooter and a vehicle. This is near the Maryland- D.C. line. There, they found 60-year-old Jerome Marshall, who had been riding a scooter when he and a car collided.
