Northlanders are noticing they’re getting less bang for their buck at the supermarket as ‘shrinkflation’ spreads. Northlanders are experiencing “shrinkflation”, where product sizes decrease but prices remain the same or increase. Residents such as Mary-Pat Ross and Zena have noticed smaller portions in cafes and supermarkets. Two groups of iconic redwood trees will be removed after a tree nearly fell on a young gardener at the Kerikeri Retirement Village. Two groups of landmark redwood trees that pose an “unacceptable risk” to life and property in Northland will finally be given the chop. Far North District Council [FNDC] announced on Wednesday that around 300 mature redwood trees in central Kerikeri would be removed after a decision by the council’s chief executive Guy Holroyd.

A historic ship in the Bay of Islands destroyed by fire this morning has been described as a significant loss of history. Fire and Emergency New Zealand crews have brought the fire on The Tui in Paihia under control after being called to the blaze about 4am. Community risk manager and assistant commander Mitchell Brown said the fire began on the ship, which had been converted into a building on land next to the Waitangi Bridge.
