Although BDNF is synthesized primarily in neurons, astrocytes can also supply BDNF through various routes, including the recycling of neuron-derived BDNF. Despite accumulating evidence for astrocytic BDNF uptake and resecretion of neuronal BDNF, the detailed mechanisms underlying astrocytic BDNF recycling remain unclear.
