Police say a motorcyclist is in critical condition at a local hospital after a crash in North Long Beach left him with serious injuries to the upper body. Long Beach police said the crash happened around 7:10 a.m. today on Cherry Avenue just south of Artesia Boulevard. “The preliminary investigation indicates that the motorcycle and a vehicle were driving south on Cherry Avenue towards 65th Street when they collided,” LBPD Sgt. Bradford Stein said in an email.

So far, local education officials say, no immigration officers have tried to set foot on Long Beach Unified School District campuses since the Trump Administration rescinded rules that blocked them from carrying out most enforcement actions at sensitive areas like schools and churches. But news this week that Department of Homeland Security officials recently showed up at two Los Angeles Unified campuses has raised anxieties that it could happen here.

Long Beach has postponed tryouts for its Junior Lifeguards program after a sea lion bit a teenage girl who was participating in a swimming trial. The attack happened on March 30 while she and a group of about a dozen cadets between 15 and 17 years old were trying out for the program, according to Long Beach Fire Department Capt. Jack Crabtree.

Two people were killed in a crash between a car and a motorcycle Sunday evening in East Long Beach, according to the Long Beach Fire Department. An elderly man was driving a car with an elderly woman passenger when they collided with a motorcyclist at the intersection of Wardlow Road and Woodruff Avenue at around 7:30 p.m., LBFD Capt. Jack Crabtree said. Paramedics rushed to the scene where they determined the motorcyclist and the woman were dead, according to Crabtree.
