Edith Martinez knows what it feels like to be lost in a system you don't fully understand. At 5 years old, Martinez and her family moved from Walla Walla to Mexico, where they lived until she was 12. At that time, the family moved to College Place looking for a better life and more opportunities. Upon arriving in College Place, Martinez did not speak any English and said adapting to a new country, language and school system was incredibly difficult.

Prescott residents are asking the school board to address its major budget shortfalls more aggressively, to be transparent about its finances and for the state to take more immediate action to get the district back on track. At least 30 people attended a public hearing on Thursday, June 12, which was hosted by Prescott School Board and its recently-appointed Financial Oversight Committee from the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction.
