The third race of horse racing’s triple crown took place on Saturday. What we saw this past weekend was excellence once again from Sovereignty. In a near repeat result from the Kentucky Derby, Sovereignty beat Journalism to the finish line to win the Belmont Stakes. How much did Sovereignty win by? Sovereignty won at the Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, New York by three lengths. This was twice the amount that Sovereignty won last month.

The two-time winner on the PGA Tour is tied for sixth place and two strokes back of the leaders after round three. On Saturday, Hughes shot a score of six-under-par 64. He had eight birdies and two bogeys. Hughes birdied the first, second, sixth, eighth, 10th, 12th, 13th, and 18th holes, and bogeyed the third and ninth holes.

Washington Nationals starting pitcher Mike Soroka of Calgary, Alberta recorded his 25th Major League Baseball quality start on Friday. He accomplished the feat in a 2-0 Nationals win over the Texas Rangers at Nationals Park in Washington, District of Columbia. Soroka pitched six shutout innings and only gave up two hits and one walk. He added seven strikeouts. Of his 85 pitches, 54 were strikes. This was Soroka’s second quality start of the season and second with the Nationals.

Three-time Major League Baseball All-Star third baseman Evan Longoria of Downey, California retired at the age of 39 according to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times on Friday. Longoria played 16 Major League Baseball seasons with three different franchises. He was with the Tampa Bay Rays for 10 seasons from 2008 to 2017, the San Francisco Giants for five seasons from 2018 to 2022, and the Arizona Diamondbacks for one season in 2023.
